Do you have a cheque guarantee card and chequebook?

(and some proof of address and identity)

Just go into any of those places that say "We cash cheques!"

You can write a cheque up to the amount on your cheque guarantee card and they'll give you cash in return for it (without any kind of charges from your bank, as long as you pay it back eventually).

It's good for short-term cash needs, but don't rely on it.
