From what he wrote i got the impression that it wasn't a website to supplement a real life business. Even if it was he should still want it to be as successful as possible which requires him to have researched properly.

Also the "if it's an online business you probably won't see much in the way of money for a while" argument against stacking the odds in your favour is retarded also. If you know something's going to be hard you should work all the harder to make it succeed.
