'Random item drops' are how you get stuff though, so the game is driven by killing more and more things to get better and better items, unlike in the Bioware/Black Isle kind of game, where the drops are specified at all points, so you kill specific rather than more enemies (for instance, you know when you kill Yaga-Shura you WILL get Shuruppak's Plate, whereas no matter how many times you kill Mephisto (ok, that's DII, but the point remains valid) you won't know what you'll get; there are a couple of exceptions (That life stealy crown the undead whathisname drops) but that's the general principle through the diablo series, and random items are almost certainly better than specific drops)
