Well you're talking about very long-term economic predictions, which are inherently unreliable. Will it damage the American economy? Yeah sure, especially if they don't start switching over to alternative fuel sources in time. Will it collapse though? Well, what do you mean by collapse? We probably won't resort to cannibalism that quickly or anything. I'm sure if we're all complete and utter raving lunatics about the matter and try to heat our homes with oil which doesn't exist it won't help. Something like the top-heavy social welfare system is probably similar. If we do ****ing nothing it could really **** us up further down the line and people are desperately trying to ignore it right now. However eventually they won't be able to due to things like this making it highly visible and important to address from a political standpoint.
