It doesn't appear to be a nuke. Just a large explosion.

As Mr Manson rightly notes, this is not exactly an easy thing to conceal. I don't see the Americans would have much to gain by lying about this. If anything, it would probably be a shot in the arm for Bush since (I presume) he is seen as taking a harder line than Kerry on rogue states.
