The cheapest, cost effective option would be to wait till July 23rd for AMD X2 price cuts, 35-50%, so that X2 3800+ would be slashed a fair bit, and you could buy that and just plop it in with a BIOS...

how old is it?
as for the audio connector, in the old days you needed that to listen to CD music, but now that data is sent over the IDE/SATA cable so you don't need it anymore.

If you refer to the stock heatsink, then Athlon XP stock heatsinks were indeed quite loud compared to Intel, however the A64 stock heatsink is much quiter from what I've heard and A64's run much...

not quite, just because you can set AGP speed in bios to be 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x, doesn't mean that card is compatible in motherboards of that speed.

yep, and any game that NEEDS more than 128MB to run will be too hard on the R9600XT anyway.
Also, some 256MB versions for R9600Pro/XT's are actually lower clocked than the 128MB versions.

if its connected up to IDE right now then it is an IDE drive, to connect an IDE drive to SATA connectors you need adapters.

MBM5 is a great temp/voltage etc... tool with plenty of options, i run it so that it shows my temps in my systray with fan RPMs as mouse over.

you commonly get out of scan range when using invalid refresh, colour depth and/or resolutions.
usually you can press ESC to revert back to the previous setting, or wait and let windows do it.

The score is only calculated from the game test frames per second, so yeah, the other tests don't count.
If you're using the free version you can just press ESC after the 4 gametests have...

3DM03 is entirely GPU based, even my lowly AXP2000+ managed to score 5000+ pts due to my GFX card.
anyway, 3DM03 isn't a very good benchmark for todays games, but no doubt in the far future games...

it should be exactly the same really, the SE has (or should, some are lower) the same clock speeds as the pro, only difference is the 4 disabled pipes and maybe the 128bit mem interface.

what graphics cards have you tried so far?
