linux sound problems

Hi I've just recently got my new mobo its a nforce 4 with a realtek alc655 chipset.
I've tried many things to get my onboard soundcard working and no joy..
I've checked the settings in alsamixer...

I just fitted an ASUS A7V600-X mobo & it supports sata & got a sata capable psu so II'm quite tempted by the plextor PX712sa as it is a sata drive but what aree the pros & cons to such a device....
