Wouldn't it be better if the name of the round was chosen during signup (vote available during the first 72 hours of signup for example). At least there would be more than the usual 40 players to decide it.

There are *alot* of names that are submitted; as such, it would actually be a fairly big burden on anyone signing up to actually go through and select the one (or ones) that they liked the most. Further, the winning percentage would be like less than 4%, thus it could be said that 96% of people did not want that name, which doesnt really improve the decision making.

Having said that, i dont mind having a shortlist made available, but that's already done on the forums.

The problem with signup though, is that the roundname is usually decided upon when the new round is announced; eg "Planetarion Round 22: The Llama Factory has begun! Signups: now" etc. the roundname not being decided upon untill the third day of the round is a bit late, perhaps.

That is indeed the main issue with the idea. We need to the round name decide before we open signups.

A poll could go up on the in game MOTD for the following round say a week from the current rounds end.

I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to integrate a small polling code into the overview.pl page. Once the submitted entries are refined, the short list could be up from a week to go from the end of the round to vote for the next one. It could be advertised via a mass mail to the universe say 2-3 weeks before the end of the round for people to submit entries.

Just a thought to make it more accessible to a wider spectrum of the games population.

This is a better idea than the original, however that means the round name ideas are submitted before the previous round ends. I allways like it when round name ideas fit the current climate, thats less likely if its done too early.
