The Obama Nation
It has taken me a few weeks but I have decided not to commit suicide.
I think it may be amusing to watch what happens and the rationalizations which will be used to justify measures which will be aimed at ending the two-party system in the United States. I know that, by-and-large, the world and certainly the overwhelming majority of GDer's are happy with the results of the American elections. I don't think that this is irrefutable proof that the decision was wrong, however, it is a strong argument. The fact that some 95$ of print journalists voted Democratic does not bode well for objective reporting or for any form of external restraint on Democratic aspirations. However, I thought Bush was going to be conservative and was wildly disappointed. Perhaps, Obama supporters will find that they were as wrong as I was. If that is the case there is still hope. Then again, maybe MM will meet a nice girl, settle down and raise a family, but I wouldn't want to bet the farm on it. |
Re: The Obama Nation
He'll be boring and adopt 'conservative' and 'liberal' (whatever they mean in the US these days) as he sees fit, I guess. He seems to be the kind of chap who sits back and goes through a methodical process to make decisions and I think you should take a little heart from that.

Not that the Democrats are actually a good political party, they're just a lot less bad. |

Personally I don't really think 'Boy, we're we gulible morons to support Bush - the people supporting Obama must be as bad as we were' is a hugely persuasive argument. |
Re: The Obama Nation
Also, if dda is the sort of person who would actually read the book that this thread takes it's name from, then I wouldn't be too surprised if he believes that Obama is going to cancel Christmas, force people's daughters into gay marriages, and seize all apple pie-making equipment, and that all Liberals sincerely believe he will do all the above and will cheer him on in doing so.

Your better argument is to say that the data from which he extropolates his conclusion is too limited and that we need at least another republican president before we can conclude that they are all shit - attack his sample! |
