Also, new London Olymic slogans:

LONDON: You can run, but you can't park-and-ride.
LONDON: Light the fire within, flee the fire without.

**** off

Humour is one of the best ways of dealing with this sort of nonsense.

Britain has been making jokes about terrorist bombings since the first bombs, in music hall comedy and acts like flanders and swann in 1950s

grow up for ****s sake

Re: London Bombing jokes.

These bombings are like London buses anyway.

You wait ages for one to arrive, then four come along at once.

But i would like to say that i support this thread in principle.

Who cares? If we were telling these jokes at a public press conference, I could understand, but this is on a board on an online forum which hardly anyone visits. What difference does it makes, really?

There'll be people telling jokes about it up and down the land in pubs for the next six months. Grow up and don't be so naive ffs.

My brother was in the underground and had to be evacuated. I was so releived when he phoned me to say he was ok. There's no way I'd joke about it.

Re: London Bombing jokes.

President George W. Bush

I spent some time recently with the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and had an opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences to the people of London, people who lost lives. I appreciate Prime Minister Blair's steadfast determination and his strength. He's on his way now to London here from the G8 to speak directly to the people of London. He'll carry a message of solidarity with him.

This morning I have been in contact with our Homeland Security folks. I instructed them to be in touch with local and state officials about the facts of what took place here and in London, and to be extra vigilant, as our folks start heading to work.

The contrast between what we've seen on the TV screens here, what's taken place in London and what's taking place here is incredibly vivid to me. On the one hand, we have people here who are working to alleviate poverty, to help rid the world of the pandemic of AIDS, working on ways to have a clean environment. And on the other hand, you've got people killing innocent people. And the contract couldn't be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those of us who care deeply about human rights and human liberty, and those who kill -- those who have got such evil in their heart that they will take the lives of innocent folks.

The war on terror goes on. I was most impressed by the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve. And that is we will not yield to these people, will not yield to the terrorists. We will find them, we will bring them to justice, and at the same time, we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate.

Thank you very much.

I thought some of you might appreciate this one.

Not.... sure... I agree with this tbh... I can appreciate the need for being light-hearted about the whole thing... but it's similar to the trade towers in the US... This maybe one thread to not add too much to =/

Bleh.

tbh, i wouldnt expect anyone who lost family or friends today to be on the internet reading a topic titled 'london bombing jokes' unless they were the type of person who tries to get offended at every possible opportunity.

even with the twin towers, it was left a few days before the jokes about it were made.
jokes WILL be made about it,.... so either dont read this thread, or join in, u knew what it was when you read the topic, so if it offends you can avoid it.

Still,.. a couple of days before these come out would be better,.. ah well

yeah, that was me.

the problem is thus: if you were scared, fine, but that does not make you the moral authority on this matter. nobody will have a go at you because you were worried about your brother, but if people want to cope with humour it isn't your ****ing place to tell them not to.

Dead_Meat 7 Jul 2005 19:26

Re: London Bombing jokes.

My brother lives and works in London and I live in the US. I'm English dontchaknow.

I tried for about an hour before I finally got through to him and he told me he didn't go into town, but that he wouldn't have been that far away from Edgeware Road if he had been. I told him he was a lucky bastard and that he owed me a beer for the phone call. He laughed.

However, since I'm not twelve years old and emotionally retarded, I didn't immediately start wailing and crying and believing my brother was dead when he didn't answer, since the chances were about 33 in 8 million or so that he was one of the unlucky ones.

Stop dribbling over it and go buy yourself some more butter for comfort.

My dad works in the centre of London. To get to work, he goes via Liverpool Street. Which happened to be where one of the bombs went off.

Yes, I tried for about 30 minutes to get through to him, until I did. Upon making sure that he was fine, I watched the news all day (lazy student) to see what unfolded.

Then I came here and had a giggle at DM's bus joke.

Am I about to be struck down?

I use the underground, i know people that work in liverpool street and im in and around the areas affected. As is practically everyone who lives in london.

And i laughed at DM.

ps i made my 'joke' on jenni's thread but since i didn't have the courage of my convictions i followed it up with lots and lots of smily faces an up sign and upbeat send off.

You can take our transport system but you'll never take our humour!

Luckily all my friends and family in London are ok.
But even so there's no point being in the dumps about it all.
It's tragic people have died, but we need to move and carry on.

Defiance is the word.

Nothing wrong with being scared, I was worried as well, just don't take the moral high ground simply because you had an 'almost'.
