[:crymeariver:] Enby sad :(

Some ****s tried to nick my car last night

Just had a call from the police, it's been found in an alley about 300 yards from where i parked it , with the window down etc. Haven't seen the condition of it yet but hopefully it's not been burnt out and still works.

What I hope happened is that they tried to nick it by jump starting it but the immobiliser stopped them and so they ran off.

There were a load of tools in the back that i'd only had since saturday too :-(

I'm waiting on mr policeman getting back to me, as I need to make a statement, apparently. :/

Yeah, apparently forensics will need to check it for prints etc.

Mr policeman still hasn't got back to me though :(

I wish I could go and see it. :/

Re: [:crymeariver:] Enby sad :(

Insurance will not cover me.

They'll only pay to the value of the car. (4-500), and i have a 200 quid excess, so 200 quid of anything has to be paid by me anyway.
I haven't called them yet, but I imagine this will the situation.

Either way this whole thing will either result in lots of expense, or me cancelling everything, taking out inheritance savings I'd hoped to save for something else, and getting another car.

I imagine it's not difficult for the cost of fixing to be more than what i paid for the car.

Re: [:crymeariver:] Enby sad :(

Just spoken to my housemate, who actually delt with the policeman.

Someone is coming to see me tonight, apparently, and the police will arrange for it to be removed and forensically examined.

Apparently the condition is fine, it looks like it was just nicked for joyriding or whatever, rather than anything else. The radio wasn't taken, and hopefully that means things in the boot werent.

The ignitions been ****ed up, which is annoying, but the rest of the car is apparently fine.

When i get it back and how i fix it , bugger knows.
The enby wishes he had had more car security :/

You should move to Pennywell or Byker, Enby.

I don't even live in the rough area of york :(

(though admittedly, its 2-3 miles away)

I'll be happier when i see it, but that could be a few days/weeks depends how long the police keep it, i'll know more tonight.

Keep careful receipts of all of your costs and then send them to the police.

That way if the criminal(s) involved are ever prosecuted you can be awarded compensation. I know you think it's unlikely they'll be found but you never know and they might be prosecuted for another crime and ask for your crime to be taken into consideration (it's a tactical thing).

otherwise: poor enby :(:(

I'd never thought of that, thank you.
I shall keep then in my great folder of sorting :)

I'm feeling a bit happier now, will be happier once i've spoken to the policeman tonight.

Re: [:crymeariver:] Enby sad :(

Hopefully as it's an oldish car, the cost of repairing the ignition won't be too high.
Still it's bloody annoying I grant you.

Apparently my car is quite likely to have its spare tire stolen as it lives slung under the boot (released from inside the boot via a nut). This seems to be a bit of a design flaw in the 306, but at least it's not the whole car at risk.

Good luck with the police :(

lol.

Update : I have to go to Fulford police station (10 min walk), later tonight to make a statement (just saying when i last saw it, it was locked, etc).
that'll be fun.

I've also been given an incident number, and told which garage has it at the moment, so i can contact them to ask if the forensics have been done.

OMG double post I am such a rebel.

Police statement given, car is being checked for fingerprints etc at the moment, and i can check tomorrow/day after for getting it back.

Still don't really have many details on its condition or wtf happened.

Earlier this year I had an old car stolen.

I got it back two days later with minor damage.

Four months later, the same car was stolen from the same place (my driveway).

The car was found a few weeks later, it was a total loss.

The insurance company looked at it and said they could only give me $2,800 for compensation.

I had only paid $2,000 for the vehicle.

$800 profit on stolen car. \o/

The rich just get richer.

The cad that went joyriding in my car managed to get himself involved in a police chase. He hadn't changed the plates and they clocked him doing 80 in a 50 zone. He drove it head on into another persons car. No one died, my car was a write off and he skipped bail a week later.

I know i felt rather anxious when I went to see the car after the crash. It's never a good feeling :(

What was the point I ask myself (I think they should ask themselves too)

Re: [:crymeariver:] Enby sad :(

Just rang the garage.

My car was moved about 5 yards before being abandoned (into the nearest alley).

For that, the police have taken it to MALTON (25 miles away) to be fingerprinted.

For that 5 yard trip I now have to pay at least 117 quid to get it back, plus 12 quid for every day its at the garage in malton, not including the repair costs.

You have to pay because the police took it off to be fingerprinted? Or for the ignition to be fixed?
If you ever want a lift etc tell me :)

I have to pay for recovery of the vehicle, Fixing is optional, but somewhat necessary.

Yeah, i need to get to malton to collect it at some point.

I don't get it, was the car involved in some other crime? It seems rather extreme for the police to go to such lengths over a car that had been pinched and only moved down the road a bit. It almost seems like the actions of the police have cost you more money that the criminals.

Indeed, they have. If I'd have found it myself, i'd have moved it back to where it was, called a garage to fix it and only have their costs.

Perhaps the police know more than they are letting me know - i dunno.
It would seem the main reason behind 'recovery' was to fingerprint it. (Given the main police station in york is 5 mins walk from my house, this is a tad infuriating. No doubt their fingerprinting staff left from that place to go to the garage, they could have just come to my h ouse :( )

The one nice thing that I have is that my dad has very kindly offered to pay my insurance excess amount, meaning that worst case I claim on insurance and all i lose is 2.5 months no claim bonus. I'll know for certain either way at the end of today, I hope.

Id seriously look into how much of this you can recover from the local police. After all, you did not instruct them to move the vehicle, it was in a serviceable state, and you were not given an option to repair/remove the vehicle yourself.

Im sure Yahwe can give us a more accurate legal picture on this one.
