Just for Henry's sake...
Let's have a discussion on what is grown up and what is considered mature.
Feel free to make a list about your Real Life that you would consider is accurate about you, now don't try and skim around the dirty stuff, include that too. Then sit back take a look and wonder if you are as grown up as you profess to be around other people. Myself. Currently Living in Canada and about ready to apply for Permanent Residence which will entitle me to find work in this country. Have a nice stable relationship with a girlfriend of which has lasted oh 2 and a half years, living together for 18 months. Got our own place on a one year lease. No outstanding debts, no overdrafts, no credit card debts. Well furnished and outfitted with modern commodities like high speed internet access and a high-end range personl computer. On good talking terms with my own parents and my girlfriends parents. Currently waivering in the fitness department with an unfortunate 145/90 blood pressure something that seems to be heraditary in my fathers side of the family and with maturity it has looked like I've taken a lot of my gene's from his side. Still got the stamina to play a lot of football, but perhaps too sedantary of late out of insistance of misering cash :P Don't smoke, Haven't drunk alcohol on a binge or even greater than 2-3 unit's in a week in 2 years. Don't do drugs. Have not let alcohol stop me from completing any tasks I am responsible for in the last 2-3 years. Have not let socialising prevent me from accomplishing intended goals. Been a responsible catsitter for 4 cats over periods ranging from 2-4 months in the last 2 years. Been a responsible baby sitter for children(not of family or relations) under age of 2 in the last year. Do recieve the occassional financial support from my father on merit. Have high school qualifications that are good enough to accquire a place in university with in the science departments. Have gambled a total of perhaps 1k uk Pounds over 3 years in losses on fruit machines. (no pound sign on keyboard) not played a fruit/quiz machine in over 9 months after deciding I should stop. No criminal record. Now correct me if I'm wrong but I could swear none of that behaviour is demonstrative of immaturity or 'not grown up'. I will admit Health Problems are somewhat usually irresponsible but given I can't predict wether it's due to my current natural activity that's caused this, much earlier dietary habits or truly heraditary remainds to be found out. What about yourself? |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
i don't know why you did this.
but. i think henry is more likeable than you. btw, i once stroked a cat for longer than 5 minutes in the last two years. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
How mature one is in real life has little bearing in how mature one appears on internet forums...

This is a "Do you really know the concept of maturity and grown up?" One can't bring that to the internet if they fail to possess it in real life. p.s. there are a few people on this forum that get my entire respect these days and I maturely communicate with them about things :) |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
firstly, isnt mature a subjective term in the way you mean it? Also, it might be interesting to know how much older you are than me.
anyway... At university, currently at home as left manchester to come today. So, living with parents, but havent been for the majoraty of the year, and living in a shared house in september onwards. So, my own place. yeah, i have student debts. But thats understandable i think youll agree. last year i had a job as a volunteer at a drugs project, involving jobs (after a while) which required a lot of responsibility, if id made a mistake i could literally have killed people. This year im getting another job with this experience as a support worker for people with mental health problems, this time paid properly. Another job with a fair amount of responsibility. You know what a job is right? (lolzor). My house etc is furnished, have high end stuff. Dont see what this has to do with maturity, but you mentioned it so i thought i might as well. On good talking terms with about 99% of the people i know, fantastic family relationships. In fact i get along with almost anyone in the world. Slightly unfit. But a lot better than i was, ive lost a lot of weight at uni, im about 13 stone now with just a very slight belly. down from 16 about a year ago. 6 foot 1 btw. Yes i drink and do drugs. But it hasnt ****ed anything up yet. And its been a HELLUVA lot of fun. Have A levels which are good to get any kind of humanities post at a (crap) university, am actually doing one. Am not going to drop out... If i did drop out, id tell people. Havent gambled since sixth form in any real way. But won when i did. no criminal record. have never looked after cats, guess i lose then. :( i cant believe i actually did that for you... bah. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
How much debts do you accrue from your drug usage?
How many deadlines have you failed to meet recently? (I have failed none recently) p.s. I held a position with a temping firm for sometime on the catering staff, before I moved to canada they were asking as to my availability again for the new year. Also volunteered to temp cover my girlfriends shifts and duly did to much satisfaction at the various places she was employed at when she was suffering health wise. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
um, the only deadline i missed all year i made a thread about.
so like, 1. a fair amount of my debt is from drugs (and alchohol). But i still think it was worth it, and i dont think ill ever change that opinion. oh, and ive just given up smoking |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
Sunday - why do you create threads like these?
Recently you've been posting 'normal' stuff (now I know I've not been on these forums long and I know you dont like me, so I assume you'll think my opinion doesnt count and it probably doesn't but heh) and you've been an 'asset' to the boards. But every time someone disagrees with you, you launch a personal attack, and then when you are retaliated against you go highly defensive - which is possibly understanding. But then you have to post an ego thread (such as this) where you try to prove to everyone else that you're life is perfect and better than everyone elses. In reality, the only person you are trying to convince is yourself. So stop the defensive, stop the ego trips, stop the trolling and realise that maturity is about admitting where you're not perfect and how you can change these, if that is what you desire. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
I'm with Stew.... in some aspects.
You were ok for a while. Then this happened. Sort it out mate. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
He looked after cats, you don't have a chance in hell of beating that.
Nothing yet mentioned would fall under my definitions of what makes someone mature (mainly, as I don't happen to think you can decide that without knowing someone to a reasonable degree). Some of the things show that you've been given responsibility in the past, perhaps that you're hardworking/reliable/etc. By posting this thread, you come across to me (my opinion etc.) as a very insecure person, who at the slightest (yes, I wouldn't call this "character assasination" (heh) anything else...) threat, builds big walls around themself, in an attempt at some kind of protection. I could say you were sad, or pathetic. But as I'm taking the time to reply to this, I'm not sure what that would make me (aside from really, really bored). So instead I'll just let you, and Deepflow, and Ragnarak and anyone else who wants to keep up the petty squabbling to get on with it, and I'll go to sleep. bye :p |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
Sunday. I'l tell you this.
No matter how much your life looks perfect, does not make it perfect. That's one. No matter how good your life is, you look like a ****tard when you brag about it, especially over the internett, where people laugh at it. That's two. No matter how or what you ever become, Henry is cool. You are not. Deal with it. That's three. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
I'm assuming Deepflow called Sunday immature (*sp -how do you spell that?) or something!!
Quote:
Good for you evergreen you have done well for yourself and yes have matured a lot that is obvious even on here, but also im sure you have done some daft things in your time (£1k on slot machines!!) Deepflow and the drugs is maybe a bad idea but thats his choice - f**k hes a student im sure thats what students are surposed to do, i spend a hell of a lot of money on Alcohol (but i admit im immature (*again)) but im having fun i enjoy it and to tell the truth i don't care. Maybe you are more mature than Deepflow, actually i think you are but there is a reason for that, your two situations are compleatly differant one of you is ment to be mature, and to be honest i admire you for what you have done (you just need a job now) |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
throuhg the mature-factor, could you honestly, seriously explain why you made a thread like this?
(no trolling/trying to show off or whatever, i am seriously curious) |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
You created this thread to show off to GD what a wonderful life you have, and how much of a great person you are. Ironically, while you are doing this under the guise of making yourself look mature and responsible, this is about the single most immature thing one can do on the Internet.
Sunday, you won't grow up until you can get your sense of self-worth somewhere else than on GD. No matter how often you iterate that your life is so great, or how many people you have to kick in the shins to establish your superiority over them (the "Look everyone, Person X is shitter than me!" syndrome you seem to be suffering of), it doesn't get you anywhere. Whatever one may think of several other posters on this forum - they don't nearly come across as the child you appear to be. The term that describes you best at this point is a wannabe. |

p.s. I know you'll simply say something along the lines of "lol, you guys are so easy to troll" after a thread like this, but do you really believe half the stuff you listed makes someone mature? Not having debts? Not gambling? Not doing drugs? I wouldn't say any of these things have any impact at all on maturity. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
Too obvious, Dante beat me to what I wanted to post though.
|
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
I think it's all pitiful.
I make a thread where you are suppose to self evaluate yourself. I made a self evaluation. Deepflow made a post where his self evaluation was trying to score against me. You have all posted otherwise trying to score against me. It's all rather sad. I'm disappointed in all of you that none of you show the ability to have a mature ocnversation. The truly defensive people here are those that need to rate there merits through comparison, it seems the only way most people judge each other here and it's really quite quite petty. I hear people crying all sorts against my name, why bother if you truly believe in what you say? Nothing dies quicker than a dead thread. |

Do you knowingly break the laws of your Goverment? Do you knowingly create debt for yourself by spending cash unneccessarily on self-indulgement? I think it's a fair measure of someone's maturity if they resort to either of the above in real life. When has consumating alcohol at the expense of your fiscal solvency ever made you look mature, would your parents congratulate you? When has the possession and consumation of class A/B drugs against the laws of your own goverment ever made you look mature? Would it look mature if one time you were caught, if one time you committed a great act of crime while high on these? I think the actual stakes you pit yourself against for self-indulgement is a fair mark of how mature you are. Anyway, feel welcome to do a self evaluation Dante, I'm not here to personally attack you I'm just wanting to see how honest people can be with themselves and for non bias lines of questioning to come in. (did any of this or that result in you missing a deadline, did any of this or that result in you breaking a law) Or is most of my current generation who endear their thoughts to the world still believe that morality is lost and it's who you are that matters crime or no crimes. |

If you have'nt listened to Fitter,Happier from the OK Computer album then your really should. Dear God whats the point in all that crap. You have to ask yourself are all those points you just made actually what you want or are they what you have been programmed to believe. Are you just taking these pointers blindly from society so you can check them on your list of being a big happy well adjusted person? Once you have alot of boxes checked then your must be a good happy person. I mean, look at how many of these things you have 'achieved'! Etc. Maturity is conformity. Conformity is slavery. |

I must admit, I'm not sure how the 'looking after things' ones particularly indicate maturity, given that I looked after cats when I was about....12, and was babysitting for kids under 1 at the tender age of 14. (not relatives)

I'd do the self-evaluation thing but I'd simply come across as too brilliant and you'd all probably kill yourself when you realise you're not as great as me. |

Re: Just for Henry's sake...
sunday what was the actual point of this thread? i dont need to tell everyone on this board how great my life is or what ive achieved for the simple reason that NOBODY CARES.
you can self evaluate with a piece of paper, a pen, and 5 minutes of time. You dont need to do it on a forum because by posting what yuo think of yourself puts you on a massive ego trip. Youve missed out all the bad things about yourself and only concentrated on what you think will impress people. My Self evaluation : Sometimes need a boot in my ass. however on the whole im doing fine and have proved myself to both my peers and in the working world. THERE I HAVE SELF APPRAISED. i dont need to go on about my financial situation or how happy my relationship is. I dont need to talk about gambling/drinking habits etc. |
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
you probably dont have any cats though so stfu
|
Re: Just for Henry's sake...
holy shit your right
