Halo the movie
Look:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4311756.stm Peter Jackson is directcing it, it's going to be terrible, he'll probably have hobbits in there somewhere. And Doom is out, but I'm going to wait until it's a DVD (in less than 3 months - they keep reducing the DVD release time after theatre release), so that way I don't have to spend $10 for a movie I know sucks before I see it (1st person views HA). |

A well reasoned opinion there! It featured in one of his productions so it MUST be in another! Why couldn't you go the other way, and make Halo about Giant Zombie Monkeys in Middle Earth? Now that's a film! |

we can only hope that they start releasing threads on GD in all formats sooner and sooner and sooner so that you end up not coming to GD at all or something cause you can get your GD content elseplaces and for cheaper money too and so you just leave and you dont say a word *hush* |

I didn't know doom had a point? What have I missed?!?! I was spending all my time running around with god mode nuking things with a rocket launcher :(
Next you'll tell me Duke Nukem had a point too beyond all those poorly-rendered girls and more guns and things to shoot at? |

What I'm far more concerned about (ok, equally concerned, think this will be shit too) is Steven Spielberg making 3 games with EA - shit crossed with shit equals more shit? Or do they mysteriously negate each other, and the result will be good? Oh, and Doom - the Movie is shit. Only interesting if you're a fan of the games and/or FPS in general - and then only marginally interesting. But BFG is fun. |

EA games makes fantastic games including all of the Command & Conquer Series, the Battlefield games, and their best selling sports games. They stand up and above other game makers, far above, and calling them shit is pretty silly. Now that I've said that, **** off. You're not funny. |
Re: Halo the movie
Steven Spielberg is quite boring imo. But then again, I guess it comes down to what you like. Spielberg is so annoyingly pompous and cliche at times. Not to say he haven't made good movies, but in general I don't like his movies that much.
As for EA being great, get real. What they do is buy up succesful studios (like Westwood, who made C&C series) and then have the studios continue making the same stuff. Little to no innovation in the next games being released, who can honestly say that RA2 had something really new to offer as an RTS? Yes, their sports games are generally good, but that's not a genre I'm not very interested in, so I don't really care about them. Actually, I'm a bit worried about this development in the games industry, where big companies are buying up the smaller studios when they've made a hit or two. I fear it will lead to fewer really new games, and that these big companies will force the studios to make more mainstream-appealing games. Not that these games can be good, but it will kill off all the strange and unusual games. Who can imagine Killer7 being made by an EA-owned studio? What I consider to be good game makers? Nintendo, Rare (atleast they used to be good, but the last few years have been slow - hopefully Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo will be good. PDZ didn't impress me when I tried it the other day, but then again, it was a version which was supposedly about 50% complete. Kameo looked amazing, and that wasn't finished either), Blizzard (much love to Starcraft, and gods knows how many hours I've spent on WC3. And of course WoW can't be forgotten, not that I've ever played it), Konami (Metal Gear Solid), and Ubisoft - atleast, these are the ones I could think of right offhand. |

Out of the 100 or so games I'm looking at on my shelf, maybe 5 of them are made by EA - and that includes expansion packs, and two of them are the same game. |

Not to EA bash, but in general, whenever they develop a game without 10 years of prequels to build upon, it's generally pretty poor. Catwoman was one of the worst games I've played, so was Medal of Honour: Rising Sun and Goldeneye: Rogue Agent. In fact, the vast majority of their non-sports console games are nothing to write home about, and the only sports game I can comment on (FIFA, I'm a fan of football but not of american sports), isn't that great either, despite over a decade of trying. Though I know very little of this Spielberg-EA meetup; if EA are doing the development then I would assume that we are likely to see what is basically a series of average games polished well. Which could prove very entertaining, as with Star Wars Republic Commando (IMO ofc, a pretty average FPS that was simply polished exceedingly well, and some good set pieces made it a gripping experience for me.), leaving gamers mildly entertained and not particularly pissed off. As for Spielberg, I'm an easily satisfied movie goer (whereas with videogames I can occasionally be elitist), so I haven't really got anything to say... |
