Modem Poweroff?

Someone posted a proggie of theirs here that can poweroff, shutdown etc. at the press of a button - whether it's immediate or on a schedule

I would like to know if there is such a thing for a 56k modem? (USB) - I leave my PC on while I'm asleep then set it to shutdown @ 4am - but my modem runs hot when I wake up as I don't have a modem shutdown thingy

Is it possible for such a thing to be done? I couldn't find anything for my particular modem: 3com U.S. Robotics 56k V.90 Voice Faxmodem

Thanks,

M.

Yes, such a thing does indeed exist. It is called the power switch.

And you know of a device that can do this to be scheduled? (without resorting to Wallace & Gromit-esque inventions).
Read, then engage brain, then reply..mmmkay?

Google searhing seemed to find some MODEMs that have this feature built in (like the monitor power off after X-minutes) but no luck for 3rd-party progs :(

If your modem uses a wallsocket to get its power just buy a timer for the socket, im guessing its USB tho. In which case I have no idea.

If it got it's power from USB then it would switch off when the computer went off.

I don't know why I put USB bit in - it's not USB (heh) - it's powered by the plug adapter

I'll look into this 'timer' you're talking about :-[

btw - I can't find any modem coolers but my modem runs hot - anything to cool it down?

I'm worried that the amount of time ppl are spending using the PC is killing ppl's braincells and not radiation from mobile phones etc.

Then perhaps you should use your own brain to think of something?

The standard wall socket timer is pretty common, as for cooling it down possibly using some of your vast cash you could place a water cooling plate on the modem? Alternativly you could just buy a better modem. Or stop worrying about the modem getting hot? As long as you are not covering any air vents and its not stuffed down the back of your sofa it will not go any hotter than it has been tested to go to.
