Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
During my absentia from these forums I got reading a lot of maddox, a fair whack of that conversational chaff thing from wiki and just realised everytime you get into a disagreement with someone on the internet perhaps it's better not to let them know you read the topic at all.
Is posting in a topic that's just going to cause a lot of he said/she said retorts really worth it? Is the true power QDeathstar and other forum users have in making threads the fact that none of you can turn their back on their objectionable opinions? |

I would have thought this would of been a reserved username

Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Me too.
Turns out they re-released it again... At least it's not Pavil (again) |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
QDS doesn't have power. I pronounce this thread part of my new absurdist programme, "Maximise the Size"*.
*A sub-programme of "Increase the Peace". |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
If someone can say something an provoke a reaction then he has power surely?
(without getting you know like the shit beaten out of him or the internet equivalent the kickban) |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Round and round the causality arrow goes, where it stops nobody knows!
It's ridiculous really. Everyone has the power to provoke a reaction of some kind. You can argue QDS was provoked to write that piece of claptrap (henceforth referred to as POC) by everyone else. The fact that the POC was posted and many people disagreed with it on various grounds doesn't necessarily give the poster any power. The POC existed anyways in the abstract Platonic world. All QDS did was actualise to it. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Yes but if people had ignored it would this cause him to keep 'actualising' things?
From what I read what you had done actually created more outspoken people for QDS rather than convince anyone otherwise that wasn't already convinced. It's kinda like othello, trying to turn one chip at the expense of many when you already dominate the board and you could win by ignoring the one chip surely. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Power only rests with the moderators and admins. There is no need for abstractions; we have access to the control panel.
|
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
That isn't power.
Admins and moderators can't make a forum live, forum users make a forum live. |

Surely your opposing view is only useful spoken if it's going to create more people like-minded?
I mean it's a bit like those gusy who walk around with the billboards saying 'the worlds gonna end' if you don't do it for that reason. |

Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Maybe he enjoys walking around with a board stating "the world's going to end". Personally I'd hate to have a world full of people who thought exactly like me. It'd be frightfully dull.
Having a certain view is only really good if you want to have that view. If you also want to convince someone of your views then that's fine as well but it's not necessarily connected to the whole "having a view" area. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Moderators and Admins can't be created without the power of the people.
You'd not have been a moderator if it wasn't for the fact that these forum posters had the power to demand one. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Which came first the moderator or the poster?

the poster.
People would post their views somewhere, people would create a community, from that a moderator would be created. I can write my views on a piece of paper, and sellotape it to a lamppost, I'm not a moderator, but eventually someone will start moderating the lamppost's views if enough people start posting views on them. |

Usually art should be somewhat an escapism from reality though rite? At least in some cases.

Where Sunday has picked up this Bolshevik interpretation of the historical process at work on the internet is anyone's guess, but it is intensely, and criminally wrong.

Who asserted that we are a thinking entity without being able to truly define and not assume the sub-conscious?
|
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Fine then.
Sunday, you can't think. At all. Now that this argument has been settled in your favour I hope we can let sleeping dogs fall like a deck of dominoes. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
I'm perhaps suggesting duel exsistence.
Like the plausability lent to people who believe we have a soul. Perhaps when the soul has expired(temporarily or permanently) that the human body can act and behave unmoderated. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Fine. Dual existence then.
Neither of you can think. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Are you just being insulting (you are)
Or can we argue that perhaps people can honestly do things, formulate speech and talking patterns without thought at least with the parts of their mind which would understand moderation, like the parts afflicted when one is suffering a bout of tourrette's. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Well first of all you'd have to show that there is no moderation as moderation would most likely be implicitly assumed.
Frankly this would be easier solved by ascertaining the physical state of the first person on the internet. Statistically he'd be unlikely to be drunk, sleep-walking or have (hand?) tourettes. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
I don't know, the demographic of people who have high iq's and inevitably be around at the creation of the internet have a statistically high demographic of being either alcoholic or having a mental problem that needs medication.
|
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Actually, you're wrong.
|
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
Oh?
Please Specify. |
Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
It's the whole most people who worked in creating the internet were alcoholics with mental disorders bit. Without any attempt at proof. Given it's not a highly well-known fact (such as my "most people don't have tourettes or a drinking problem") you're usually expected to give some proof. This is how internet arguments usually go.

Re: Can all arguments be defeated with Maddox and Wiki links?
It's good seeing Jonny argue with Sunday. I'm wondering which will resort to "lol, you're taking this argument seriously, you lose!" first.

I suggest Jonny and Sunday sit round a bon-fire, roast some chicken, pig and some marsh mellows before holding hands and dancing + singing around the fire like their best friends.
Who gets thrown into the fire after this is anyone's guess. |
