odd SATA problem
I just installed a SATA drive; seagate barracuda 7200.10 320gb, and I left in my old hard drives - IDE drives. now the IDE master is C: and I wanted the IDE slave to be D:, however the second old HDD does not appear at all. I also have a similar problem with my DVD drives in that the master is fine, and the slave drive appears, but I can't do anything with it at all, even open it using the button on the front of the drive. Any idea what might be wrong?

Re: odd SATA problem
i don't know if this will help but i had a similar problem where my ide slave would disappear - however it would appear for one boot whereby i would go into bios and make it appear (auto) or by going through and entering the cylinder info etc. then it would appear - but if i shutdown or restarted the drive disappeared
try checking the cable or resetting the cmos or something sorry im not of much help :/ |
Re: odd SATA problem
Insufficient power supplied to them?
Strictly speaking that should be manifesting itself in other ways too though, random reboots/hangs etc |
Re: odd SATA problem
It definately sounds like you're having power issues, especially the drive refusing to open. Other than that, check the jumpers (on the PATA drives) and try swapping data and power cables about to see if there's a fault in one or the other.
