And it looks like we're down for 12 hours. Awaiting PA Team comment in this thread.

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

EDIT: [01:08] <Lunar_Lamp> I said 12hours earlier. Evidently our own policies disagree with what I said.
[01:09] <Lunar_Lamp> Just to confirm to everyone - that is 24hours of downtime.

NOOOO :(

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

24 hours then. Go outside, get some fresh air, change your poopsock.

Mzyxptlk 7 Sep 2007 00:20

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

What is a poopsock?

Nadar 7 Sep 2007 00:28

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

A poopsock eliminates the need to go all the way to the bathroom, which wastes valuable gaming time.

:(

I'm a fan of recycling myself (pun intended).

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

So that's 2% of the (already short) round gone. :-)

I wonder what the record is for the least number of ticks in a round of Planetarion? (Excluding the half-rounds from 9 to 10.5).

My guess is that it was last round - by some margin.

(I was wrong - it's 1129 ticks - in round 20).

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

Hmz, who had routing problems this time?
I find it odd they do this for some players and not others.
Was 1-2 rounds ago there were some major routing problems in Norway, and I didn't notice any downtime in pa.

But when the Canadian moose people had a little hiccup they shut it down.
Do i sense some sort of trend? :o

Yes, and I who woke up at the middle of the night to do coverts so i could get my #1 spot back (well, got out of bed to take my midnight pee, but still counts) and then the game was offline :(

I WANT SYMPATHY!

http://www.planetarion.com/pages.php?a=page&id=2

There is NOTHING written there about what happens if one tick is affected.

We would not have needed this downtime.

Kills the game-spirit and the work of many BCs arranging attacks.

Veil05 7 Sep 2007 10:04

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

How does it lockhead? it only affects those who have JUST launched an attack. most people were going to be launching in 3/4 hours time. They can still do that.. right?

me loves downtimes :p

Mistwraith 7 Sep 2007 10:49

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

OK i was at work for some of it, but from what i have heard it started with a few players who were aided in #support, but then the issues started to grow worse and move into european countries, it was monitored for about 12 hrs and appeared to be getting worse not better, so the decision was made to stop the game .
If the pa team had waited, and the situation had gotten even worse, then this thread would have been calls for a stop and a roll back!
the pa team concidered the % of players that could possibly be affected if the trend continued and stopped the game, RIGHT DESCISION !

paolo 7 Sep 2007 12:51

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

I can maybe try to understand why they stop ticks (not really, normal life also continues if you're sick, so why close the game if ~50 people can't access it...) but why do they have to close the game alltogether?

Mzyxptlk 7 Sep 2007 12:56

Re: ZOMG Downtime!

Presumably because people will then have a harder time using the downtime to arrange defence or attacks. Which seems to be the logical thing to do, considering the fact that these 24 hours don't "exist" in-game.

WTF! WHAT IS THIS!! THE GAME IS DOWN!!! CRYYYYYYYYY!!!!

I agree. The round should stop after a given number of ticks, not on a set date.
