Ide?
I had a HP Pavillion ZV5000 laptop. After three years of pertty much continual use power unit burnt out.
This is very expensive to fix. So I've taken out the hard disk and bought (as advised by a man in a PC shop on Tottenham Court Road) a 2.5" IDE case to put it in. The connector doesn't seem to fit. A couple of hours ago I got this: Quote:
This is the case. It is 40Gb and HP give this Spare Part Number: 350210-001 Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. |
Re: Ide?
is the connector for the drive case smaller than that on the drive itself, or the other way around?
They should both be long blocks with lots of pins/holes Looking at the image it looks like you have a 3.5" sized ide interface on the drive itself which is a bit unusual. This being the case you will either need a 3.5"->2.5" IDE adaptor, or a 3.5" drive caddy, or you could just simply plug that drive into your PC with a regular ide cable without any need for a drive caddy in the first place |
Re: Ide?
I'd have just slaved it to my PC, like Phil suggested. The IDE adaptors aren't cheap (about £25). Stupid question..but have you got the IDE connector upside down?

Re: Ide?
It wasn't in the original thread, but this is the connector on the case. My hard disk simply doesn't have the connectors to go into it.

Re: Ide?
Thanks, but I finally managed to get it right. There was an adaptor on the connectors on the hard disk. Took it off and itworked fine.
