Legend of the Dragon - Tournament Arena
 
Ok this is a complete break away from the normal thread I do.

Yes this is an arena, even tough I hate to DM player vs player style games, I though I might give this a bash. It may not work, yet again it may.

If I go thru life without taking a risk, then why live at all.

Well here we go.

This is based on the World of Harkun that familliar players with Legend of the Dragon series know.

It is based on an amalgation of rules from Quest for Glory and Legend of the Dragon - Winds of Fate.

players will create a character with one thing in mind that they will be fighting other players and monsters that i will throw in as well.

you will fight for a prize and experiance this experiance is called glory and is used to upgrade your character and buy new skills or improve old ones. the prize is gold and with this you buy and repair equipment.

Simple huh....

ok peeps this is for the new people if any

ok what is it about well the rules are as follows :-

this is an epic fantasy RP that will be done on a 96 hour turn basis (this makes this easy for me to continue the story with and plan what happens next, also will make it easy for others to follow. I hope)

there are a number of races

human (most common)
edhel-kin (half elf or high human)
moredhel (dark elves)
edhel (light elves)
slamoredhel (forest elves)
dwarves
orc
black orc
hobgoblin
gnoll
ogre
half ogre
ogre magi (very rare)
Lizard Man

these are the races, each has a distinct advantage and disadvantage. too many to go in to here.

Characters have classes as follows

Fighter
Mage
Priest
Thief

sub classes are allowed but are not listed here if you wish to have one you will need to justify its inclusion to me.


Characters are devised as follows

Name
Level - (starts at level 1)
Experiance (exp)

Dragon Level - if ever attained

Hit points (hp) - dependent on class and race
Magic Points (mp) - as above

Specific Power - dependant on race and class

Attack
Defence
Magic Attack
Magic Defence

Speed
Evasion
Magic Evasion

the above 7 stats are devised from spending 80 points amongst them these are considered to be your starting points before you choose your class ie your apprentice level.

Then your character will need a back ground.
where they came from, any enemies etc etc, a description should be included as well

Alignment will start of as neutral but may vary as your character progresses or as you may dictate when character is created, you may not start off as evil.

You must also choose which element your character is linked to from the following :-

Fire
Water
Wind
Earth
Darkness
Light
Thunder
Non - Elemental

you will all start with basic equipment

clothes
boots or shoes or sandals
weapon of choice (if used)
1 set of leather armour (if needed)
backpack (can hold 10 items of upto medium size)
bedroll
tinder box
cloak or robe
pouch
100 gp

plus other class related equipment.

Skills

NOTE THAT YOU CAN NOW BUY SKILLS WITH YOUR GLORY (100 glory = 1 skill point)

Tactics - allows the hero to make snap decisions on the battlefield that may enable him/her to gain that vital edge

Boost Morale - this is an inate skill that boosts the morale of the hero and may also allow a save against mind affecting spells

Resist - with this skill the hero makes the hero more resistant to a form of attack that has to be chosen when this skill is bough

eg Resist - Fire

Heal - again an inate skill that allows the hero to heal whilst in combat

Fanatic - allows the hero to make a frenzied attack the higher th skill the more chance of success but leaves the hero vulnerable once it has been used

Magical Resistance - skill that resists some magical spells

Resist Fear - allows the hero to resist fear spells or effects

Resist Terror - as above but against fear

Cause Fear - this means the hero is so fierce they can cause fear in an opponent

Cause Terror - as above

Cause Dismay - this causes the target to doubt what they are doing and also to loose their action

Cause Confusion - this does as it says the target becomes confisued as to the enemy they are fighting. this is a sort of magical atack

Move Fast - this allows the hero to move faster and thus may be able to dodge an attack or even make an extra attack

Fast Attack - this allows the hero to attempt to make an attack before the other person can react

Dodge - this allows the hero to try to take less damage

Evade - this allows the hero to try to evade an attack completely.

Blur - % chance that enemy missile fire will not hit the hero.

Archery - increases the damage done by missiles

Diplomacy - You can bribe enemy, or heroes they may change side or leave

Eagle Eye - you have a better accuracy with missile weapons

Leadership - gives the hero an extra bonus to morale

Navigation - this allows the hero to navigate on water

Necromancy - costs 5 points to buy - allows the rasing of undead - this can be used with any of the other mage schools

these undead are raised permanetly but you can only raise and control 1 unit of undead (max level 4)

all spells cost 2 points extra to buy

Raise skeleton -

Raise Zombie -

Necromancy Level 2 - must have all the other spells at least 2 per day - cost 4 points per level of spell

Raise Ghoul -

Raise Ghast -

Raise Shadow - they drain strength

Scouting - increases the chance to spot other enemy troops/tactics

Wisdom - allows the hero to resist spells better

Priest Spell ability - costs 2 points to buy - allows the casting of priest spells - cannot have Mage Spell Ability

all spells cost one point to buy :-

Heal - allows to heal wounds

Bless - gives to hit bonus

Curse - curses one enemy


Priest Spells Level 2 - must have all the other spells at least 2 per day - cost 4 points per level of spell

Heal Hero - allows hero to be healed

Bless Army - as bless unit

Smite the Godless - increases damage to one enemy unit


Priest Spells Level 3 - must have all the other spells at least 2 per day - cost 6 points per level of spell

Talons of Flame - Hand to Hand attacks do extra fire damage

Flame Strike - Causes a pillar of flame to hit the target and others nearby

Wrath of Astea - this causes all attacks to do x2 damage


Mage Spell Ability - costs 3 points - allows the casting of mage spells - but cannot cast priest spells

Magic Missile - causes damage to one enemy

Shield - provides 25% armour bonus

Fog - blinds one enemy


Mage spells Lvl 2 - - must have all the other spells at least 2 per day - cost 5 points per level of spell

Invisibility - makes one invisible for one attack

Haste - gives +1 attack

Fire Bolt - causes fire damage


Mage spells Lvl 3 - - must have all the other spells at least 2 per day - cost 8 points per level of spell

Fireball - the age old fave of all mages

Protection from Normal Missiles - protects from arrows and such like

Stinking Cloud - causes a stationery cloud of smellyness to cover an area 10ft x 10ft x 10ft


Summoner Spells - costs 6 points and units must have 400 glory - allows the casting of summoner spells - but cannot cast priest or mage spells

this allows mages or priests to become summoners if the hero has this ability. they all work together.

Summon Skeleton - summons 1 skeleton

Summon Zombie - summons 1 zombie

Summon Imp - summons 1 small flying demon


Druid Spell Ability - costs 3 points - allows the casting of nature spells - but cannot cast priest/mage/summoner spells

Entangle - causes one enemy or group of enemies (10ft x 10ft) area to be grappled and become immoblie (save negates this)

Bark Skin - provides 25% armour bonus vs all attacks (execpt spell attacks)

Fog - blinds one enemy


Druid spells Lvl 2 - must have all the other spells at least 2 per day - cost 5 points per level of spell

Cure Wounds - makes wounds healed for 1 - 20 hp

Summon Natures Ally - gives the druid 1 wolf or 3 faries to aid him in combat

Acid Bolt - causes Acid damage on one target

It sounds interesting, but I wouldn't be me if I didn't have any questions. :p

This thread will it just be character vs character or do we command armies with which we fight battles?

Also, what happens when you lose a battle/fight/war? Do you get killed and removed from the thread or can you keep playing? Do you lose items/gold when you do?

2 - if you get to 0hp then you are removed from the arena and can heal up and yes you can lose items and gold

krak - the ogre magi come from a land called Akatsurai the same land that ND's char comes from

its far across the Sea of Hydras. the Arena is in a Land called SOKARA, this is about 1 months journey from the lands of GOLNIR that LoTD veterans may be familiar with and the Capital of CASTLE RAVAYNE

The Age of the Dragon

The Lands known as Legendra was born 10000 years ago, and began with the Creator known only as the "One". It is said that this massive yet graceful entity gave birth to all living things. One after another races of plants, animals and unique beings appeard across the lands.

One of the races created by the "one" were the powerful dragons. These towering winged destroyers would strike terror into all that behld thier awsome might. In time two forms of dragon worship evolved - The Dragon Spirit and the Divine Dragon "Astea".

Another of the races that was created was that of the Humanoid races. These peacful beings lived a quiet agrarian life, in harmony with the world and the environment that each race lived in.

Now the lands are ravaged by war and the Historic town of DELPTON was under attack by a large DRAKKEN force, it survived.

And also the mighty SORCEROR OF DARKNESS - HEXIS has revealed himself, again the legends have proven true, what now for the LANDS OF HARKUN.

Even war has broken out in the lands of AKATSURAI far to the EAST.

At this time in the Lands of SOKARA, the rulers of the CITADEL OF VELIS CORIN, the Corin family decided to train warriors and also provide entertainment to the inhabitants of the city. Thus the Arena was re - opend.

this was a two fold operation to train new warriors and allow others to train and try their luck in the arena. the mightiest mages of Corin summon creatures to fight in the areana and the priests of Astea provide the healing.

You now stand in the Great Citadel, signing up for one of the 2 arenas

1 - the arena of 1 on 1 combat - this is a random 1 on 1 battle, no one can interfere and you have no choice on what or who you battle. the glory and gold in these battles is very random.

Usually the opponent is about the same as you

2 - The free for all - this is the one that the citizens love, all the chars (you lot) are placed in huge areana based on different landscapes (jungle, mountains, hills, etc) and you go up against other NPC's and monsters - this is all random but the dangers are riskier but the rewards are higher.

and whats more unlike areana 1 there are NO RULES!!!!!!

Basic Rules
 
ok I lied there are some basic house rules to follow

these WILL be enforced by me.

1 - in each arena the battle is finshed for the char when you or your opponent reach 0hp. or you are too wounded to continue.

2 - you can rob the bodies - if they have anyhting to take, this even means other players if they are down and you are within range of them

3 - in your post you can only do the following

move
1 attack option (or more but only if you have the skills/spells/items to do this)
1 defence option

4 - there are no one post kills unless i have said that you can

5 - glory is awarded on the folloing basis

the incapacity/kill/win over your opponent (this can be shared if 2 or more team up)
post quality

Besides, clothes only tend to get in the way during battles. Ughar has dark red eyes that make him look as if he's under an everlasting bloodlust spell which has inspired many an enemy with dread. Background:

When Ughar's father and mother got together they had only one thing in mind. However, they soon faced the consequences of their actions when a few months later Ughar was born. It was only then that they decided that they would train Ughar as best they could and turn him into the ultimate warrior.

"But I paid for those apples!!"

*He's quickly silenced as the dungeon portculis slams down blocking the enterance

"...what do you mean arena... fight for money? what?"

*Pointed off in the direction of the first corridoor by the mean ol' dungeon master, Kama is left to his own devices and trecks on for the crowds infernal amusement, muttering something to himself

Appearance:
Ughar is a mean, big, bald and fearsome looking half ogre. He is about 12ft tall with a very muscular body, just like a normal ogre, except for the fact that, due to his heritage, he has a dark skin (like the bark of an oak). He doesn't wear a lot of clothes, because his tough skin usually protects him from even the nastiest types of weather (natural or unnatural) that can be found in the land of Harkun. Besides, clothes only tend to get in the way during battles. Ughar has dark red eyes that make him look as if he's under an everlasting bloodlust spell which has inspired many an enemy with dread. He also has a set of remarkably wellkept teeth in his mouth of which he is rather proud.


Background:

When Ughar's father and mother got together they had only one thing in mind. However, they soon faced the consequences of their actions when a few months later Ughar was born. It was only then that they decided that they would train Ughar as best they could and turn him into the ultimate warrior.

Apart from being the inventor of such recipes as "elf-on-a-stick", "knights 'n spices" and "stuffed lizard" as well as being the author of the bestseller "mages & druids: 100 dinner tips", Ughar's father was a famous and powerful ogre that devoured many a hero during his days of glory. It's from him that Ughar inherited his physical strength and endurance as well as his apetite. Ughar's mother was a smart black orc assassin that taught him how kill with a minimum effort by using his own strengths to their full potential while ruthlessly exploiting other people's weaknesses, and also how a little poison on your weapon can have a large effect on your enemies. It's from her that Ughar got his tactical insights as well as most of his combat experience.

Ughar's training began at a very young age and it became soon apparent that there would be a promising career as a fighter for him. When there was no more that they could teach him, Ughar left his parents and went to the fighting arenas in the land of SOKARA that had just been re-opened. There would be pain, there would be suffering, there would be blood, there would be cracked skulls and there would be a cheering crowd as he'd crush all his opponents.

*Caledor slowly walked into the graveyard arena. His boots crunching some dead leaves as he paced slowly forward. He took in a deep breath, and let it out again, then took another pace forward.
Caledor looked around the graveyard. There were 13 undead opponents in this arena, and he meant to get at least some of them. He stood still, in the shadow of a large, dead looking tree, scanning around the graveyard looking for signs of movement, that would signal an opponent.
Spying some movement off to his left, Caledor crouched down and started moving off towards what was going to be his first target of the day*
