are 1 up playing this rd

seems strange to see them so low down the rankings , are they not playing seriously this rd or just trying to stay out of top 5 till after tick 120

We're thinking of changing our name to Novus Ordo Seclorum.

I'm guessing it's either to do with the alliance limit, or some point where cruisers/battleships/jpgs are available.

It's when shit alliances can start recruiting past 60, I think.

I assume they're doing what eXilition did in round 15, and adding people to the alliance tag as they need defence or are sending defence.

That's what happens when PA-Team makes such a rediculous rule in the first place :(

Any alliance can recruit over the initial 60 members limit. Playing to the rules does not make an alliance any worse than any other.

Correct, however the rule about alliancelimits is rubbish (imo)...

How can anyone 'pull an ascendancy' with the XP forumla as it is?

Any alliance can't really. You expect 1up to drop out of the t5 at all this round?

Only the shit ones can.

Kinda like ND last round then (the ended #7 and therefor were able to recruit more members then the initial top5 limit). I'm not saying ND did (they didn't) but they however had the ability to.

The_Fish 18 Apr 2006 10:54

Re: are 1 up playing this rd

the only reason ND dropped out of the t5 was because they didnt recruit and they kicked a t50 member for breaking alliance rules.

Tietäjä 18 Apr 2006 11:11

Re: are 1 up playing this rd

Or, then, they're doing what's been done before and aren't putting members into their tag until they need to. I suppose that can be found "useful" to an extent.

last round is strange as Ascendancy suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the #1 spot 40 million points clear and that on its own knocked the stuffing out of lots of alliances, as no one had any reason to play because the win had already been decided.

This works great if, like last round, it's nearly impossible to fight an XP alliance. If you're value based, then reducing a gap of 40 mill is easy ("relatively ofc") ... you just gotta roid them and kill their fleets (good old blocking).

A tactic which is useless against an XP alliance. Only remote thing you can do is defend EACH target they're hitting, which is impossible for 1 alliance to handle, because they'll just switch to another alliance they can raid easily.
And even then, all you do is damage control. It's not like you greatly reduce their score.

No alliance ever really has their score reduced absolutely anymore. They just get their growth reduced to sub 2% or so.

2 rounds ago I lost 80% of my fleet (but my FR's) and thereby lost like alot value and alot score.

If you kill someone's fleet (value), you reduce his score (not his XP).
Maybe in general it's hard to reduce the score of an alliance, but by killing their value you'll greatly increase the possibility that you can close the gap fast.

Killing fleets of XP players is useless since they only need little ships to gain XP. Reducing their value actually increased their next XP gain.

Only up to a point. I had a few dodgy days when I didn't have enough resources to rebuild my fleet fully and could only send 2 fleets out. Other days when it was only barely enough to send 3 fleets and I had to reduce what I could hit.

Being out of tag doesn't make you less strong. It actually draws more attention in the case of 1up as this thread goes to prove.

Ascendancy used not having people in tag to exploit the fact no-one had thought of the simple yet telling tactics of 'XP whoring' and to keep them well away from the top until it was too late for anyone to wise up to the tactic or make a difference to thier score of any real significance. Given that this scenario is impossible this round the two cannot be compared. Thus, 1up could not possibly be 'pulling an ascendancy'. Mkay? ;)

Use synergy and have different key mappings on your windows box and linux box. It's very annoying, particularly when you know you have the right keymapping on each box and can't fix it :(

It's supposed to be a greater than.
