Re: London Bombing jokes.
I use the underground, i know people that work in liverpool street and im in and around the areas affected. As is practically everyone who lives in london.
And i laughed at DM. ps i made my 'joke' on jenni's thread but since i didn't have the courage of my convictions i followed it up with lots and lots of smily faces an up sign and upbeat send off. |
Re: London Bombing jokes.
You can take our transport system but you'll never take our humour!
Luckily all my friends and family in London are ok. But even so there's no point being in the dumps about it all. It's tragic people have died, but we need to move and carry on. Defiance is the word. |

tbh, i am a little upset, i visited london just under 4 years ago! it could have been me on the top of that bus :(
|
Re: London Bombing jokes.
Only two died on that bus apparently. Amazing.
I wonder if the driver saw who it was (he's alive). |
Re: London Bombing jokes.
apparently they were all due to go off in trafalgar square at 9:00am
but hell that's what happens when you don't use a journey planner |

London Bridge can fall down all it bloody well wants, seeing how it's in Arizona.

I think it's more traditional for the British to make songs out of their tragedies than jokes. I agree with this thread though, honestly the best way through something like this is to laugh it off. |
Re: London Bombing jokes.
My dad, cousins and uncle worked there - my cousin just by liverpool street. I didn't try to think of any jokes, but somehow I got a sort of
<Tony Blair> Someone set us up the bomb! <al Qaeda> All your base belong to us! thing in my head. ------- Edit: I didn't say it was meant to be funny . It's because I was explaining the joke to someone who wasn't a heavy internet user in the last week. |

I don't know why i'm even writing this, because i know none of the people it's aimed at will understand. But i'll try anyway.
This thread isn't about mocking people's deaths, and injuries. It's about the fact that if we stop people from laughing, from having humour, then the terrorists have already won. it's not as if the thread isn't appropriately titled! what are people going to expect to find ? Yes, today is a terrible thing, but if we allow it to turn our lives into ones where we only mourn, only express sadness, then the people who do such act's will do them more, knowing that they can disrupt our lives so much. People aren't posting here to offend, or to be contraversial, they are doing it because if we cannot laugh, what is there left ? |

Re: London Bombing jokes.
I was being serious. The reason I will personally laugh about something like this is because I dont really give a shit - I dont differentiate between 37 people dying of terrorists and 37 people dying in various car crashes. If I knew anyone who died personally then the last thing I would be doing would be making jokes about it, and I would be incredibly annoyed if anyone knew about my loss and decided to make a joke in my presence due to the complete lack of respect which it would show. I find it hard to believe that a lot of people dont really feel similarly, no matter how much that they pretend that their laughter is really because they want to fight terrorists by making humourous posts on the internet.

Re: London Bombing jokes.
gordon. you're not really british though
you don'[t understand i'd be laughing at weeks' first post even if my best friend had died. i admit i wouldn't be posting, but i would have smiled with my loss and my pain. we did it all the time in the war. |

So, you quote Phil^, who wants the thread closed, but you appear to be complaining about the actual thread, but what exactly does 'lets keep it a dumb now' mean? Huh? |

michael howard has condemned the atrocity
saying it's killed half of the conservative voters in the city |
Re: London Bombing jokes.
he lies! there were a good few in the houses of parliment, so he can't have killed half of them.
Though it wouldn't surprise me if half the conservative party voted labour or lib dem or something. |
Re: London Bombing jokes.
that all the attacks were on public transport shows that congestion charging really does work

Re: London Bombing jokes.
Humor is a natural reaction for many to a tragic situation.
Gallows humor. I was in high school when Kennedy was assassinated. It was taken very hard and very personally by many Americans. I heard my first Kennedy joke within the hour. I laughed. I felt better. |
