PC issue - Trojans

Not sure if this is the place to look, but I figured I'm already here so what the hell.

I keep getting a fake windows message about a system error, which after clicking the "suggested link" leads me to this http://www.defender2009.com/buy.php?a=111

Having done a little googling, it's pretty obvious this is some sort of Trojan embedded into my system registry and all that fancy stuff.

The problem is, I can't find a legitimate means of removing it...I get a lot of links to spyware/adware/malware removal programs, but I don't trust any of them. Norton's hasn't steered me wrong since I bought this machine in April (until now when my GF got Limewire on it, and subsequently a bunch of other undesirable stuff).

Machine is an HP DV2000 laptop, OS is Vista (yeah, I know NOW that it sucks donkey balls).

Any help would be appreciated; sorry for intruding on this forum if this isn't the place to look for such an answer.

Tried Adaware?

It has helped me in the past.

Tried it on an older machine some years ago...forgot about it though.

Thanks Zhukov, will report back with some progress (or lack thereof) shortly.

If that fails, you can try Comodo Firewall. Like the name suggests, it's primarily a firewall, but there's also a Defence+ module attached, which should be able to help. A third option would be Spyware Doctor.

spybot search + destroy is another option.

There is also the manual way of removing them via tools such as sysinternals process explorer + autoruns ( http://www.microsoft.com/sysinternals ), but you need to know what you are doing with those really.

Re: PC issue - Trojans

I ran a virus scan on my pc the other day - loooooads of stuff, then spent a good few hours playing with programs similar to those suggested in this thread - no luck.

My solution: format, and use linux for porn/dlds
