This Flash Car Wash thing

Has anyone used it and if so is it any good? My car is black and hand washing usually leaves water marks unless i spend about an hour waxing the damn thing. And then im constantly in a state of panic about small bits of grit as im buffing or whatever scratching the paintwork....

So...

opinions?

I don't know of any Americans who have ever heard of the prodect and one of the women I work with has a father who owns a car wash. They usually keep up on such things. It could cut into business.

I bought it and it worked an absolute treat once i had won the battle with the hosepipe and its insistance on detaching from the tap. Plus theres no watermarks or blotches that i could see once id dried it off (a quick spin up the dual carriage way and back)

I rewaxed the whole front end (upto passenger door) too. (i wouldve done the rest but mama came out and said that my love of car was becoming obsessional :-(((((( ) plus i was fast running out of wax.

How much did you pay for this device?

JammyJim 27 Jun 2005 22:31

Re: This Flash Car Wash thing

20 quid

JammyJim 27 Jun 2005 22:35

Re: This Flash Car Wash thing

oh and another 11 quid for some decent wax. Im using Turtlewax platinum stuff which is Brazilian Carnauba Wax and Bavarian Montan Wax plus some sort of special polymer thing which means its easy to apply and buff

gives the car great depth

i washed my car the other day for the first time. it's mettalic grey and i too ended up with water marks, even though i leathered it down. i might give this flash thing ago next time

Re: This Flash Car Wash thing

i figured it costs 6 quid a wash and 20 quid = 3 washes starter kid and then the 'topups' packs are about 4 quid for the filter thing which is good for 10 washes and the shampoo whcih is prolly good for 10ish as well.

so over time it works out cheaper than the local safeways job. plus theres no damage from those big flappy things that brush the car

What?
If you don't care about cleaning yoru car then don't bother.
If you're going to be a bit of a twat and clean it (like me) don't fag around with car washes, do it by hand and include wax. For you there should be no middle ground.

I live in constant fear of scratching the paintwork when i do it by hand. Especially when im drying the ****er. Waxing is quite theraputic i found but the sponging flies and bird shit off the car isnt the nicest part of car cleaning.

plus that was just a comparison for those who really dont care too much whether its flapped about and blasted with heat or whether its lovingly sponged and dried by hand and then waxed with brazils finest waxy goodness.

You shouldn't ever be at a stage of scratching the car during drying. By the time you've been through a proper cleaning process there shouldn't be a spec of nasty grit or dirt about. You should always start by rinsing the entire thing down to get rid of the really heavy stuff. Then lather it up and wash, followed by a final rinse. By this stage there should be no dirt in sight. If the grit you are worried about is coming from your cloth you are drying it with then you need a new cloth, after the final rinse there shouldn't be any dirt left for it to pickup, the cloth should always be clean as a whistle. Now, rather than a cloth you should really be using a good leather shammy, or a really really high quality synthetic one (there's lots of cheapy shit ones out there).

Use large but breif strokes during the drying stage, it will reduce the likelyhood of water stains occuring. If worse ever comes to worse and you do get a scratch in the paint, then you can still fix it up with a good cut & polish.

i know i know but there was a tiny winy bit of grit on the chamois. Its left a very very very mild scratch on the bonnet. I plan on purchasing some Meguiers anti scratch crap which apparently is just a simple case of put it on and then buff it off. It takes a very fine layer of paint off and removes the scratch totally.

The chamois i used was the best in the store btw. Williams F1 team endorsed too!

My car is'nt a nova. :)
